Collection of interviews, correspondence, historical sketches, photocopies of photographs and other historical materials compiled by Marianna W. Davis in researching the book, South Carolina's Blacks and Native Americans, 1776-1976, a local project inspired by the United States Bicentennial in 1976. Includes 18 unbound volumes on history of African Americans and Indians that were turned in for the following counties: Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Chester, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Fairfield, Georgetown, Greenville, Hampton, Lancaster, Laurens, Orangeburg, Pickens, Sumter, and Williamsburg. Many county files include historical sketches of African-American churches, towns, schools, etc.
